Australia Day 26th January 2012

Camden Lions Club once again asked the Club to participate in their annual Australia Day parade and despite the forecast poor weather 9 cars from the club joined in.

We were lucky as the previous days were heavy with rain but during the period of the parade it was hot and humid.
With the cars decked out in Aussie flags we joined in the parade to the delight of hundreds of people who lined the streets.

Afterwards a few of us ended up at the Thomas’ house for an Aussie sausage BBQ and Darrens home brew.

Aqua Golf – Sunday 22nd January 2012

It was overcast but warm when we all met at the M4 Maccas for the short drive to Penrith Panthers and the Aqua Golf facility.
As usual the golfing skills (or lack thereof) we on show.
Many differing styles and approaches but the winner on the day was Lucinda Falcone who won a free bucket of balls for hitting a target. You must remember that she is only eight years old. Well done Lucinda.
After we had exhausted our golfing skills most of the group headed up to Wallacia Pub for a cool beer and a meal.
A few light showers during the evening had some getting there Torana home a little earlier than planned.
All in all a good first outing for the year and a good chance to catch up after Christmas and New Year.

Lions Pride Drive Inn Night – Saturday 7th January

This is always a good 1st night social for the year with many members meeting at the Cricketer’s Arms Hotel for a meal and new years catch up before heading off to the drive inn.
Some came for tea and the drive inn, some for tea only and others just turned up for a chat. No matter what it was, it was a good way to start the year off with friends.
While the author of this little piece did not stay for the movie, those that did seemed to enjoy it, but I didn’t know Brokeback Mountain was showing that night?

Maybe Darren and Matt might like to explain their antics in the back of the Hatch.

Club Christmas Party – 4th December 2011

We held the Club Christmas Party at Warragamba Dam again this year and just like 2010 it rained.

Lots of members and their families attended and we were lucky to have the shelter sheds as the rain came down by the bucket load several times through the day.

All things being equal (and damp) we had a good get together.

Questions need to be asked:

Who needs to lift their car higher to get over small bumps in the road?
Who needs the services of a good auto electrician so wipers and lights work at the same time?
Who needs windscreen sealer to keep water out of their Torana?
Who needs a Gregorys, UBD, Sydway or even a GPS to navigate their way around Warragamba Dam?
How hard is it to spin you wheels on a bitumen surface in the wet weather?

If you were there you would know the answers to these and many more questions!

More Recognition of Excellence

The current issue of Aussie Muscle Enthusiast recognises club member Jason Ashcroft with an article on his excellent car.

Jasons Black LC GTR appears in issue #8 of the magazine which is in the news stands now.

Well done to Jason, an excellent photo spread of an excellent car and well worth the wait of nearly 12 months since the photos were taken.

Another Club Car Recognised

Simon Reid is the latest club member to have his car shown to the world via Xtreme Holdens Magazine. Photos were taken nearly 12 months ago and it has been a long wait to see the car featured.

The latest issue of the mag #40 is on sale now.

Well done to Simon – the car is a credit to you.

Bathurst Weekend ~ 15/16th October 2011

We started at Maccas Eastern creek at 9.00 for a 9.30 kick off to Bathurst via the Bells line of road. There was a convoy of around 12 Toranas followed by Mick in the 1 tonner. Peter and Daniel in the ute and Matt and Tara in a Honda. Along the way we were joined by Susan and Sandy with the kids in the LJ for the remainder of the trip to Bathurst.

We ended up having a nice lunch at at Motel that Les had organised and then hit the mountain for the rest of the afternoon for photo shoots and some laps around the best piece of road in Australia.

Our accommodation was gold fields which is on the racing circuit at forest elbow and Les had organised tea for us at the Bathurst light car club, which was all of a 10 min walk from our hotel. Brian and Jason arrived in the LC GTR

We all had a good feed and plenty to drink at the club with a short down hill stagger back home in the dark.

Sunday was Breakfast in town and then off to the motor racing museum to check out the cars and a few more laps of the track before we headed home.

Thanks to every one who attended the Bathurst trip and making it such a fun weekend away.
Well done to Les for organising such a great weekend.

In Issue #7 of Aussie Muscle Car Enthusiast Magazine both of their Toranas appear.
For those of you who don’t know, Nigel has an Orange LX Hatch and Kathleen an Ultra Blue LX Sedan.
