16th July 2017 Wollombi Pub Lunch.

July’s club run saw us go on a trip up north for a cruise and a pub lunch. This seems to be quite popular format with STC members and the turn out for this one was great.

Our meet point was the old faithful Thornleigh McDonalds. With bellies loaded up on McMuffins we gathered for a briefing and the all important lucky door prize. This time going to new member Bruce (by the time you read this it had burnt a hole in his pocket and has been well and truly spent along with a little more).

In the cars we hopped and headed out onto pennant hills road. Our cruise route was to take us along the old pacific highway a great stretch of road much better than sitting bored all the M1. the road was a little bumpy at times but the Torrie seemed to handle the bumps nicely. A quick pit stop along the way for a toilet break and we arrived at the Tavern just on lunch time. We scored a spot in  the camping area and we were able to line all the cars up which made for a great display.

Being a warm sunny sunday there was a whole lot more people with the same idea as us and the lunch queue was lengthy. Thankfully some quick thinkers in the group headed up to the local chippie and ordered there. From there it was an afternoon of relaxing in the sun and watching the passing parade of onlookers checking out the cars. I took the chance to purchase a bottle of the taverns home brew “Jungle Juice” the term only milk and juice come in 2 litres….well add this bottle of goon to that.

By 2.30 it was time to head home. Originally the plan was to head back via wisemans ferry but we thought it best to take what we thought was a more direct route back to the M1 and home. Keith took us on a great trip through god knows where but made for an interesting drive. I love these out of the way, out of the ordinary trips. Don’t ask me to tell you where we went but soon we joined up with the freeway.

We pit stopped at the Warnervale service centre for a splash of fuel then it was off on our separate ways home.
